On one side, there are non-invasive lasers—and on the other, various cosmetic surgeries. But in between, there is an amazingly effective, minimally-invasive body sculpting procedure that helps people permanently get rid of stubborn fat cells and tighten their skin. It’s Smartlipo™, and we were the first in the region to offer it. We’ve been doing Smartlipo™ longer than anyone in the area, and we know the difference it can make for people who are tired of battling the trouble spots.
Smartlipo™ is gentler than traditional liposuction because it uses a high-powered laser that zeroes in on that otherwise immovable body fat. It actually melts the fat cells, which are then suctioned—so they are gone for good. There are very few side effects, and only minimal downtime.
Smartlipo™ is quite effective, especially in places that are resistant to your healthy eating and exercise efforts, like the neck, jaw, arms, hips, thighs, abdomen, love handles, bra strap area, and male breasts.
We use local anesthetic to numb the area, and then place a tiny tube (called a cannula) under the skin and gently move it back and forth. Because the cannula has a laser fiber attached, it actually dissolves the fat cells. Then, the fat cells are drained. Since it’s a laser—which heats the blood vessels—there is less bleeding, bruising, and swelling than traditional liposuction.
After the anesthesia wears off, the area will feel slightly sore. You’ll want someone to take you home, and you’ll need to take it easy for a few days and follow the doctor’s instructions. But the downtime and discomfort is very minimal (see our FAQs for more information), and the recovery time is much faster than traditional liposuction. The great news is that you’ll start to see results soon after the procedure (and in the weeks and months following).
After Smartlipo™, the fat cells can’t come back in the treated area. But Smartlipo™ is location specific, so if you gain weight, fat will be deposited in other untreated areas.
