Microdermabrasion
The Medical Microdermabrasion Difference
Medical grade microdermabrasion is another advanced cosmetic tool we have to help uncover vibrant, more youthful looking skin, while reducing scars and pores. Usually performed on the face, chest, back, neck, arms or even hands, microdermabrasion is a cost-effective alternative to chemical peels and/or plastic surgery.
Your skin has two main layers: the dermis beneath (actively growing) and the epidermis on top (dead skin cells). The topmost layer of the epidermis is called the stratum corneum, and it acts as a protective barrier for the lower skin layers. It blocks out everything but a few small molecules, so that when we apply creams and lotion to our skin, only a small portion of moisture and active ingredients are absorbed. Home to minor skin imperfections such as blemishes and fine wrinkle lines, the stratum corneum layer is where microdermabrasion takes place.
How Microdermabrasion Works
We use state-of-the-art FDA approved medical-grade equipment and technology to spray fine crystals through a controlled jet nozzle to exfoliate the desired area of skin. The technology controls the tiny crystals with precision, removing the stratum corneum layer and leaving smooth, healthier skin. Once the stratum corneum layer has been removed, your body gets a signal that a mild injury has occurred, and rushes to replace the lost skin cells. The result is the rapid growth of healthier skin cells that look and feel smoother. The treatment usually takes less than an hour, and often, you see improvement immediately (although the desired results may take more than one treatment).
New Skin, New You
Microdermabrasion removes many of the skin’s visible imperfections, like blemishes, sun damage, and fine lines. Also, with the stratum corneum gone, your skin can better absorb moisture into the lower layers of the skin, so medicinal creams and lotions with active ingredients are now more effective in replenishing skin moisture and elasticity.
Studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatment at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow as well, removing deeper blemishes over time. Evidence indicates that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface. Since microdermabrasion removes only the most superficial layer of skin, there is no hyper-pigmentation and it is considered safe for all skin types.
